Condylomas (genital warts)
Treatment of condylomas (genital warts)
What are condylomas?
Condylomas, also known as genital warts, are benign skin changes caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
They commonly occur in the anal area and may appear individually or in clusters.
They commonly occur in the anal area and may appear individually or in clusters.
Often, they cause no symptoms or only mild burning, itching or moisture, but many patients perceive them as bothersome or uncomfortable.
Causes and transmission
HPV infection is very common and is usually transmitted through close skin contact or sexual contact.
Many people are initially unaware of the infection, as it can remain asymptomatic for a long time.

A weakened immune system, stress or skin irritation may promote the development or spread of condylomas.
Treatment
In our practice, condylomas are treated exclusively with conservative methods.
Surgical removal requires special protective measures that are not suitable for a standard outpatient practice setting.
Surgical removal requires special protective measures that are not suitable for a standard outpatient practice setting.
We therefore focus on local, tissue-sparing therapy, tailored to the individual situation. This includes:
- Medications that support the local immune response
- Anti-inflammatory creams to relieve symptoms
- Regular follow-up visits to monitor and support healing
With this approach, condylomas can regress gradually and viral activity can be reduced –
without the need for surgical intervention.
